Medical Update from Marty, 1/13/09

Tuesday 13 January 2009

Kerry is somewhat more alert today since her morphine was reduced by half. Low grade fever with the cause not apparent but probably pulmonary in origin. Developing another pleural effusion on the left which will probably require another chest tube if her temperature doesn't diminish but the weaning process off the respirator will start in the next two days. When off the respirator her tracheotomy balloon can be deflated and she can talk even with the trach in place and leave the ICU.

Two years ago the Florida  legislature passed a law stipulating that liability insurance was not mandatory to have a drivers license or car plates. Neither of the other two drivers involved in the accident including the 25 year old who caused it and was driving a plumbing company car have no insurance of any kind. The large plumbing company announced to Kerry's lawyer that they would be filing for bankruptcy soon so this bodes ill for any help with medical bills.

Lynn and I will be coming back to Cleveland at the end of the week for an R and R and she will return the following Wednesday when Kyla comes down for a week.Hayden 's visit was therapeutic for him and it was nice to see him for a day before he went back to the corporate trenches in NYC, Boston and Charlotte this week.
