Medical Update from Marty Taliak 1/1/09

Thursday 1 January 2008   Dramatic improvement in sensorium today. Able to somewhat communicate but with fear and much more obvious pain. With my own hearing diminished and slowly learning to read lips the " What happened " repeatedly said. Still has the endotracheal tube in and requires more oxygen in the mixture for some reason. As she becomes more concious her pain is more evident and it's a heartbreaker for anyone there. Tomorrow another CT Scan of her head and back. Surgery is scheduled on Monday for her foot, arm and right shoulder.   As we all know when Kerry is afraid she has that "deer in the headlights look" and that is constant when ever she opens her eyes. I think John is communicating with her best and he feels he understands what she may be trying to say. This is tough on everyone esp John but he is holding up. Kerry's pain is particularly hard on Lynn and I'm learning how easy it was for over 30 years to order pain medications for someone in discomfort and walk away and not have to sit and watch the misery.   Marty
